Phenoxymethylpenicillin
If antibiotic treatment of dental abscess is indicated, phenoxymethylpenicillin is the drug of first choice due to its narrow spectrum of activity.
The suggested duration of antibiotic treatment is 3 to 5 days.
Review patients who have been prescribed a course of antibiotic treatment, ideally at 3 days (see Bacterial infections review tool).
An appropriate 5-day regimen is:
