Local analgesics

• Local analgesics cannot relieve pain continuously but are helpful in severe pain to enable eating or sleeping.
• Lidocaine 5% ointment can be directly applied to the ulcer or lidocaine 10% solution, provided as a spray, can be applied to the ulcer using a cotton bud.
• Benzydamine hydrochloride mouthwash or spray can also reduce mucosal discomfort.
